VICTORY LAP: BRADY MULLEN NAMED GATORADE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Brady Mullen is the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. The award, given to the top athlete in each state across all sports, was presented to Brady by the Gatorade athletic foundation. Mullen was the individual state champion at the Division I LHSAA cross country championships, where he paced the Jays to their third straight state title. Moving on the track season, Brady will look to take the 3200m crown and go after the state record after having posted a time or 8:59 earlier this summer. The Blue Jay congratulates Brady on his many accomplishments.
CROSSED: JAYS USE DEFENSE AND CLUTCH SHOOTING TO DOWN HOLY CROSS
The Jesuit basketball team improved to 21-5 on the year after defeating Holy Cross on their turf late Tuesday night. With the win, the Jays remain in the hunt for the outright district title as they move into the back half of the district schedule. It has been a fantastic start to the season and last night was no exception. Sealing the game for the Jays was Brewer Nichter who went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line in clutch time. Jesuit basketball is back in action tonight at Edna Karr with tip-off scheduled for 7:00pm
CAREER DAY GIVES BLUE JAYS GLIMPSE INTO FUTURE
On January 25, 2023, Jesuit High School’s annual Career Day gathered Blue Jays past and present at Carrollton and Banks. During two informative 30-minute sessions, Jesuit alumni shared their insights and experiences in their respective careers to interested students. One of these presentations was given by class of 1981 alumnus Dan Clancy, the CEO of Twitch. Mr. Clancy recalled his time at Jesuit, the lessons he learned here, and how he applied them in his professional life. He extolled the Blue Jays to embrace failure and never stop learning new skills.
QUICK STRIKE: BLUE JAY SOCCER IN TOP FORM EARLY
The Jesuit soccer team has been busy as of late with wins against Rummel and Ben Franklin and a tie versus Catholic High. Lead by the stellar play of senior Jack Kessels, the Jays hope these early matches serve as a testament to the team’s quality and potential. The season hits full swing after the Mardi Gras break and the team needs the Gizzard behind them if they are to reclaim the LHSAA state title.
WRESTLING SWEEPS DISTRICT DUALS, LOOKS AHEAD TO STATE
The Jesuit wrestling team secured its first district title since 2009 with a dominating performance on the mat against Brother Martin, St. Augustine, and Archbishop Rummel. Behind a total team effort, the Jays were able to down Rummel with a score of 58-20, blank St. Augustine 84-0, and take down Brother Martin 41-32. The Jays will compete next in Bossier City on February 2-3rd to defend their state title. Any student interested in attending the tournament on the Gizzard Spirit Bus, which includes a limited edition Gizzard t-shirt, should pick up a form from the student council office.
