Clutch Time: Jays Call Game with Late Game Shotmaking
Brewer Nichter seals the game with late free throws as Jesuit takes a 56-50 victory over district rival Holy Cross.
The Jesuit basketball team improved to 21-5 on the year after defeating Holy Cross on their turf late Tuesday night. With the win, the Jays remain in the hunt for the outright district title as they move into the back half of the district schedule. It has been a fantastic start to the season and last night was no exception.
Tip-off was slated for 7:00pm at Holy Cross, but you would not know it was a home game for the Tigers with the Gizzard arriving in full force. Behind the raucous crowd, the Jays fought hard in the first two quarters, but the score remained tied 25-25 at half. Holy Cross was not going to go down without a fight; however, a clutch three-pointer from Gus Laibe gave the Jays the lead down the stretch. Sealing the game for the Jays was Brewer Nichter who went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line in clutch time.
Leading both the offense and defense, Nichter ended the night with 28 points and 5 blocks. In addition to his clutch three, Laibe added 15 points for the Jays.
