A NEW ERA: LABOR DAY MEET SHOWCASES THE NEXT GENERATION OF BLUE JAY DISTANCE RUNNING
As the calendar turned from August to September, the cross country team was changing gears from the doldrums of distance training to the speed of race day. This year the team has a new look with Nick Accardo taking the reigns from former coach of the year, Cullen Doody '08, and senior Brady Mullen stepping up in the captain’s role to lead a pack of young guns to the school’s fourth consecutive state title. The Jays first competed in the annual intra-sqaud “Red, White, and Blue” meet, which was held this past Labor Day weekend at the old UNO course near Elysian Fields. With Mullen sitting this one out, junior Brady Monahan took first place in the two-mile trial with senior Joe Accardo finishing second. The team will need both runners to continue their winning ways this season as they face stiff competition from rivals Brother Martin and Catholic of Baton Rouge. Good luck Jays!

CLUB SPOTLIGHT: ANNUAL RUSH DAY HELD IN COMMONS
This week during lunch, the Commons played host to Jesuit’s annual Rush Days, giving Jays the chance to explore over 80 co-curricular clubs, organizations, and teams. Held on September 4-5, the event allowed students, especially the newest Jays from the class of 2029, to get involved, meet new people, and sign up for their favorite clubs. From the Jesuit Medical Society and the Fishing Club to fun activities like foosball and fencing, student leaders and moderators made their pitch for students to join up and get involved in everything Jesuit has to offer.

BEYOND THE POOL: BLUE JAY SWIMMERS SELECTED FOR LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Jesuit swimmers, Louis Roux and Enzo Solitario, were recently selected as two of the three representatives from Louisiana who will attend the United States Swimming National Leadership convention. The three day workshop will take place on September 26-28 in Denver, CO, where Louis and Enzo will get to meet athletes and coaches from across the country and learn not just about best swimming practices, but also how to improve their leadership skills. Upon their return, Louis and Enzo hope to lead the Jays to their 42nd consecutive district title and make another run at being crowned state champs.

TRADITION OF SERVICE: SENIOR JAYS COMPLETE SUMMER SERVICE PROJECTS
Continuing the tradition of service through programs like Operation Upgrade and the Good Shepherd School summer camp, the senior class recently wrapped up the annual summer service project. With Jesuit students and faculty providing personalized attention, Operation Upgrade, established in 1971, helps academically promising yet disadvantaged middle school students improve skills in English, math, and reading. Blue Jays volunteered at the Good Shepherd School summer camp, founded by Fr. Harry Tompson, S.J., to provide a safe and enriching environment for local children. A big thanks to Mr. Scott Delatte '06, Director of Service Projects, for continuing to form "Men for Others."

60 SECONDS WITH AIDAN WANG: NEW WJHS SEGMENT HOSTS MR. REUTHER IN FIRST EPISODE
Over the past year, WJHS has become an anticipated mid-week event when it airs each Wednesday morning. This year, adding to to it’s already illustrious list of original segments, 60 Seconds with Aidan Wang made its WJHS debut on this week’s episode. Aidan was joined by new principal, Mr. Jeremy Reuther '01, who sat in the hot seat to answer Aidan’s questions. Though Mr. Reuther survived the gauntlet, the next guest might not be so lucky. Be sure to check out WJHS every Wednesday on the Jesuit Student Life YouTube page.
