WELCOME FUTURE BLUE JAYS! OPEN HOUSE A SUCCESS
This past Wednesday families from across the metro area attended Jesuit High School’s Open House. The event began in the auditorium with a presentation by Fr. John Brown, S.J.; Principal Jeremy Reuther; Spanish teacher Richard Williams; and Student Body President Wilson Frischhertz. Blue Jay spirit was high throughout the event with the leaders of clubs, teams, and the academic disciplines providing prospective Jays with plenty of experiences. Highlights included getting to be an anchor on WJHS, striking the Gizzard Gong, watching the Phils and Band perform, and meeting the various athletic coaches. Looking forward to seeing the future Jays at Carrollton and Banks.

METRO CHAMPS! SWIMMING LAPS THE COMPETITION
With a recent district win, the Blue Jays headed into the Allstate Sugar Bowl Metro New Orleans High School Championship Swim Meet on November 2 with strong momentum. Solitario, a University of Wisconsin commit, set three meet records, winning the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events and breaking the 50-yard freestyle record as part of the 200-yard relay. He reset his own 100-yard freestyle record at 44.89 seconds and broke the 200-yard record at 1:37.52. Villars also shined, setting a 100-yard butterfly record with a 48.75 finish and contributing to relay victories. Jesuit claimed the championship with 350½ points, inspiring the team as they prepare for the state meet on November 22–23.

HONORING ANCESTORS: SPANISH CLUB BRINGS DIA DE LOS MUERTOS TO LIFE
Jesuit’s Spanish Club honors Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday on November 1 and 2 that celebrates and remembers loved ones who have passed. Combining indigenous customs with Catholic traditions, the holiday features ofrendas—multi-level altars adorned with personal items to honor the deceased.This year, seniors Colin Skipper and Christian Lang led the club in creating an ofrenda on campus, inviting students, faculty, and staff to pray and reflect on their departed loved ones. All school Masses in November will be said in memory of deceased relatives, which will be placed on the school altar for special remembrance.

ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR: MR. PETER FINNEY JR. ’74
Mr. Peter Finney Jr. ’74, the 2024-25 Alumnus of the Year, addressed the student body at Morning Assembly this past Monday. He recalled his many influences during his time at Jesuit, including two priests, Fr. Harry Thompson, S.J., and Fr. Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J., Mr. Finney, a celebrated journalist and editor of the Clarion Herald, credited the guidance and support these mentors in shaping who he is today. Concluding his address, Mr. Finney urged the student body to always seek help in times of trouble knowing that there is always someone willing to help at Jesuit.

CLASS OF 1983 KICKS OFF THE THANKSGIVING DRIVE
Officially kicking off the start of the 2024 Thanksgiving Drive, Mr. Charles Thomas of the Class of 1983 addressed the student body at the Friday Morning Assembly. He credited his time at Jesuit for instilling in him the virtues of charity and service. Highlighting the Class of 1983’s funding the turkeys for the drive in perpetuity, Mr. Thomas emphasized finding a cause that one can get behind. In so doing, every Blue Jay can live up to the motto of being “a man for others.”
