Live and Direct
WJHS, Jesuit’s student produced news show, returns to live broadcasts every Wednesday morning.
The often quoted phrase “everything old is new again” can aptly be applied to the return of WJHS, Jesuit’s live on-air news network. The school’s TV show began broadcasting back in the 1980’s from a studio on the second floor near the resource center. However, as time marched on, the early 80’s technology became outmoded and soon WJHS was a thing of the past.
Enter 2023, where WJHS has returned to reaching the student body through live streamed newscasts. The new WJHS is broadcast every Wednesday morning in homeroom. In the broadcasts, there will be daily announcements, accurate weather forecasts, public service announcements, advertisements, promotion of clubs and events, interviews, and even legitimate, on-scene reporting.
Students working on the show get to use a slew of new state of the art film and production equipment and techniques. The rotating crew of anchors read from the teleprompter, while the production crew manages the green screen, wireless microphones, and lighting. While there have been a few technical difficulties, the entire community is raving about the news service.
Though the set design and graphics package for the new WJHS pays homage to the 1980’s birth of the show, this new version is sure to leave its own legacy in the coming years. If any student is interested in working for WJHS, he is asked to see Mr. Flores in Room 128.
