Is the Shrine Ready for Primetime?
The Jays head down Airline to play at the former Zephyr's stadium.
In its storied history, Jesuit High School has seen its fair share of physical changes. The “Sky Bridge,” the cafe, and the cafeteria have altered the face of the campus. Amidst the chaos of change, one thing remained constant — the home stadium of Blue Jay Football — Tad Gormley. This year, due to the extended use of Tad to other schools, the Jays home stadium has been changed to Zephyr Field for a choice few games. Could Zephyr Field, or the Shrine on Airline as it is commonly known, really replace the historic Tad Gormley stadium in the hearts and minds of the Gizzard?
On paper, the Shrine actually appears to be bigger than Tad. However, the familiarity of Tad and its famed location for the Gizzard just can’t be beat. Even though Tad is more familiar and closer to Jesuit, the Shrine presents us an opportunity for us to get out of our comfort zone and a new place for our Football team to practice and play. Perhaps the Shrine may prove to be a valuable location for Jesuit and contribute to success on the scoreboard —the football was able to beat St. Augustine at the Airline location.
Unlike Tad Gormley, the Shrine, having been constructed as the baseball field for The Zephyrs, is able to field multiple sporting events. After spending two games there, I can say that, even though it may not be the Tad Gormley we all know and love, the Shrine still is an interesting new location to play in.
