The sights and sounds of fall are upon us – football, Halloween, and finally, cooler weather. In the midst of these autumnal markers many of us may not have realized the other season – the season of homecoming. High schools and college alike host various festivities to honor homecoming on the gridiron, but the most recognizable, and competitive, of which is the great tradition of homecoming courts and all of its associated panoply of pagentry and pomp.
In one of the most high contested in recent years, if not all time, 16 senior couples competed for one of seven coveted seats on Jesuit’s storied homecoming court. After a lunch period of high voter turnout, the results were in, announced by the Jesuit English teacher Mr. Joshua Bourgeois ‘13, who also happens to be a member of the 2012-2013 court.
The first couple of the 2023-2024 homecoming court is Christian Aertker and Ava Hoffmann. Christian is a member of the Varsity Soccer Team and National Honor Society. Christian plans to attend The University of Alabama and major in Petroleum Engineering. Ava is a Senior at Mount Carmel Academy where she is a member of National Honor Society, Christian Life Community, and Mount Carmel Cubs Against Destructive Decisions. She would like to study Nursing at The University of Alabama.
The second couple is Brennan Aucoin and Blaire Power. Brennan serves Jesuit as the Student Council Treasurer and Varsity Baseball Manager. He also commits time to Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, the Investment Club, and the Fishing Club. Brennan plans to study Biomedical Engineering in the South or abroad. Blaire is a Senior at Dominican High School where she serves as Yearbook Editor and is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, and Campus Ministry. She is also Jesuit’s Cheer Captain and a competitive dancer. Blaire would like to join a college dance team and study Law.
The third couple is Nick Celestin and Emery Baudry. Nick serves Jesuit as the Senior Class President and plays Varsity Soccer. Emery is a Senior at Mount Carmel Academy where she is the Captain of the Carmelette Dance Team and a Eucharistic Minister. She is also a member of National Honor Society, Latin National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Come Lord Jesus. Emery plans to study Physical Therapy at LSU.
The fourth couple is Kyle Collins and Ella Waguespack. Escorting Ms. Waguespack is Senior Jack Kessels. Kyle serves Jesuit as the Student Council Vice President and is also a member of Varisty Football Team, National Honor Society, and Fishing Club. He plans to study Medicine or Engineering at LSU. Ella is a senior at Mount Carmel Academy. She is the co-captain of the Carmelette Dance Team and is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Teens for Life. She would like to become a physical therapist and attend LSU or Auburn University.
The fifth couple is Luke Couret and Lily Dubret. Luke serves as the Student Body President and plays on the Varsity Basketball Team. He is also a member of Sodality and the Beach Volleyball Club. Luke plans to study Finance at LSU. Lily is a senior at Mount Carmel Academy. She is co-captain of the Jesuit Cheer Team and is a member of Mount Carmel Cubs Against Destructive Decisions, Come Lord Jesus, and Christian Life Community. She plans to study Sports Medicine at LSU.
The sixth couple is Alex Grilletta and Audrey Foster. At Jesuit, Alex serves as Student Council Secretary and is also a member of the Lacrosse Team, Philelectic Society, Peer Support, J-Troupe Improv Comedy Club and Barbershop Blue Jays. Alex is also an accomplished guitarist. Audrey is a senior at Mount Carmel Academy, where she a member of Teens for Life, Come Lord Jesus, Mount Carmel Cubs Against Destructive Decisions, and Christian Life Community. She is also a member of Jesuit’s Philelectic Society. Audrey plans to study Journalism and eventually become a teacher.
Our seventh couple is Charles Lemann and Brylin Hunt. Escorting Ms. Hunt is senior Jackson Hinyub. Charles is a Varsity Football player, National Honor Society Member ,and Student Council Executive Aide. He plans to study Business at LSU. Brylin is a senior at Mount Carmel Academy, where she is a member of the Carmelette Dance Team, Cubs Against Destructive Decisions, Christian Life Community, Teens for Life, and Eco Cubs. She plans on majoring in Business and Marketing at LSU.
The race this year was so close that there was a tie. As a result, Jesuit, for one year, has expanded the court to eight couples. The eighth couple is Arthur Schott and Emily Carbo. Arthur is a Varsity Wrestler and serves as Team Captain. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Peer Support and Big Brother Program. He plans to pursue an MBA and attend Law School. Emily is a senior at Mount Carmel Academy, where she is a member of the Carmelette Dance Team, Eco Cubs, and Cubs Against Destructive Decisions. She plans on majoring in Business and pursuing an MBA.
While the members of the court have been known since the election concluded, the name of the queen is kept anonymous until the Fr. Brown crowns her. Drumroll please... Ms. Lily Dubret.
