Bradys Go Fast in Florida
Coming home from the FSU Relays, Mullen sets new school record and 5th fastest of all runners in US 3200m. Monahan sets 7th fastest time amongst American sophomores.
Lining up against the 2nd and 3rd fastest two-milers in the country, Brady Mullen knew he was in for a fast race at the Florida State Relays held in Tallahassee, Florida. Eight laps around the Seminoles’ track and Mullen crossed the finish line in 8 minutes and 50 seconds, which averages to 4:25 per mile. That time, a Jesuit school record and second fastest in Louisiana history (8:44), is the fifth fastest time in the nation. Those two faster runners finished just ahead of Brady, who placed third. However, both of the those runners are seniors - Mullen is only a junior. In fact, Brady Mullen’s 8:50 is the fastest time for an 11th grader during the 2024 outdoor season.
Speaking of young talent, sophomore Brady Monahan finished in 21st place in the 3200m race; however, he was the fastest sophomore with a time of 9 minutes and 19 seconds. With that time, Monahan becomes the 7th fastest sophomore across America this season. The two Bradys are already moving fast with another month of training ahead of the LHSAA state championship.
Back in Louisiana, Michael Vocke was flying in 1600m at the Ronnie Doyle Memorial meet at Joe Yenni stadium. The evening was charged with anticipation as spectators gathered to witness a clash of titans in the 1600m race. Among the contenders Michael Vocke, the three time defending 5A state champion in the distance, alongside formidable competitors Aiden Monistere and Tyler Blissett. With stakes high and competition fierce, the stage was set for a showdown of speed.
As the 1600m race unfolded, Vocke surged ahead, setting a blistering pace alongside Blissett and Monistere. With each stride, the tension mounted, culminating in a breathtaking final sprint. Monistere outkicked Vocke at the end to finish first in 4:11 with Michael taking second in a personal record of 4:13.33. That time puts Vocke in the top 50 times in the country and only one spot behind Monistere for the state’s top spot. Last year, teammate Jack Desroches, outpaced Vocke all year in the 1600m only to see Michael defend his title at the state competition. If history tell us anything, its that Michael Vocke will always save his best kick for the state finals.
