Blue Jays Dominate the Dual: Defeat Holy Cross 47-20

The 28th of December will go down in history for the Blue Jays as a defining moment in their wrestling season. On this day, Jesuit defeated Holy Cross in a resounding 47-20 victory, solidifying their position as the top team in the state.
The Jays got off to a strong start with impressive wins by Jose Rincon, Bodi Harris, Christopher Stricker, JP Webre, Isaac Orillion, and Harris Treuting. These early victories built a commanding 20-point lead against Holy Cross, setting the tone for the dual.
Jesuit kept the momentum going with additional wins by Cam Himel, Caden Sanderson, and Griffen Ellis, pushing the team’s score to an impressive 35 points with only three matches left to go. In the final stretch, the Jays went 2-1, with key victories by Michael Barnett and Max Belsome.

The standout match of the day came from Michael Barnett, who triumphed over Holy Cross’s previously undefeated wrestler. Reflecting on his performance, Barnett stated, “I’m just trying to wrestle my best and show that Jesuit wrestlers work their hardest every match.”
After the hard-fought dual, Jesuit emerged victorious, 47-20. Head Coach Jon Orillion ‘01 expressed pride in his team’s dedication and effort. “It’s showing on the mat,” he said, “To go out there and control the mat and not let your opponent do anything and score any points shows that they are doing the right things and putting themselves in a good position for another state championship.”
As the Blue Jays left the Birdcage with their heads held high, they knew they had achieved something remarkable: defeating Holy Cross and claiming their spot as the number one team in the state.
